Colorifix is turning bacteria into sustainable clothing dyes by recreating the DNA of colours found in nature. They express these colours in bacteria, extract the coloured pigment and then send it to dye houses where it can grow to an industrial scale. This saves water, electricity, does not create harmful pollution, and uses no toxic chemicals.

This is Wikkleboat, a group of five, sustainable tiny homes in the centre of Rotterdam! Both a unique stay and comfortable experience, we loved staying here knowing that sustainability is at the heart of everything. These modular homes are not only sleek, but are mullti-functional too! With beds that are stored in the walls, expandable dining tables to be multi-purposed as conference tables, and windows that can serve as television screens when used with projectors! The possibilities are endless!

Rewilding Europe is an incredible organisation working to 'rewild' various ecosystems across Europe. This means that the organisation is working to reinstate vital species in diverse ecosystems in order to support the balance of nature. In this episode, we travelled to Bulgaria to see the incredible work the RE team are doing in the country's vast and beautiful Rhodope Mountains, reintroducing vultures, bison, and deer.

THE EARTHSHOT PRIZE 2022
This is the world’s biggest environmental prize! We travelled to Boston, one of America’s most sustainable cities, to learn more about why this city was chosen to host the 2022 Earthshot prize! Five finalists (one from each category) will be awarded £1 million each to further their work in conservation.
The categories are 1) Protect and Restore Nature 2) Clean Our Air 3) Revive Our Oceans 4) Build A Waste-Free World, and 5) Fix Our Climate. The prize title was inspired by US President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, or goal to reach the moon within the decade (1960s), and was created using a similar sentiment, encouraging all people to come together for the sake of global progress.

In this video, we assessed the design and build of each, and learned how we can all be more resourceful to reduce our impact on the planet. Although living off-grid can be challenging and requires an environmental learning curve, it can have numerous positive benefits like conserving energy, reducing living costs, and helping people feel more connected to nature.

Welcome to Miami Fruit, an exotic fruit farm in South Florida dedicated to providing a huge variety of tropical fruits to people all over the United States, in a sustainable way. We had the chance to be given a tour of the farm by owners Rane and Edelle to learn more about the wide variety of fruits they had on offer. Here they grow cacao, rare bananas, mangos, sapote, passionfruit, dragonfruit, avocados, egg fruit and many more!

VISIT THE UK'S 1ST ECO TOWN

We visited Elmsbrook, the UK's first eco town, with highly sustainable, Passivhaus standard buildings and homes. This is a pioneering development with 400 highly energy efficient homes, creating one of the UK's first truly zero carbon communities. With solar panels lining each rooftop, green areas covering 40% of the land to encourage biodiversity, advanced waste collection technologies, and various eco-transport options, Elmsbrook has really set the standard for the future of developing.

CopenHill is a project designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group, and completed in 2017. In 2019, we visited CopenHill to witness why it's called the world cleanest waste to energy powerplant. The roof of the plant was designed to be used as the ultimate outdoors activity space in an otherwise flat Copenhagen.

WWF 2000 km cycle across europe in support of the amazon emergency appeal
London, UK to Venice, Italy
Over the course of 30 days in the summer of 2020, Ben and his friend Austin bike-packed across Europe in the aim of completing their 2000km long distance cycle. Travelling and camping in over nine countries, the team's goal was to raise £2,000 for WWF's Amazon Emergency Appeal, protecting the rainforest from the fires that ravaged that spring and summer. Ben and Austin's incredible journey ended up raising £2,600, and immeasurable awareness for the plight of the Amazon.

The Eden Project in England holds the world's largest greenhouse! The project was set up to show its visitors the importance of saving the world's rainforests and the biodiversity therein. The rapidly renewable, carbon-neutral material has the potential to be a key in the fight against climate change.
